Facts Are Facts Part 6.

Day 6 of facts produced from different studies that compares a low fat diet vs a high fat low carb diet for you.

Post is based on a study from the Journal of Nutrition, 2004.

Please note that these results were not from biased study done in order to promote one diet over another. These Facts Are Facts posts are based on the results of over 20 non biased studies.

Yesterday you looked at increased insulin resistance and how it affects your health.

Today you will learning about blood triglycerides and how they are an important marker of heart health, and describe the amount of fat in your blood.

High levels of triglycerides are linked to an increased risk of heart disease.

This increased risk can be as high as 30% in men, and 75% in women.

The biggest thing that may confuse you is if fat in your blood is bad for you then a high fat diet must be a death sentence. This is what you were taught your whole life.

But here are the shocking results in this study.

This study found that a low carb high fat diet lowered fasting triglyceride levels by 44%, while there was no change in the low-fat, high-carb diet.

Side note here: If you ever stopped and wondered why there are so many people in the U.S. with heart disease, this study gives you the answer.

The majority of health care providers and nutritionists are still pushing the old traditional low fat diets which do nothing for your triglyceride levels.

This study goes on to show the amount of fat in the blood after meals was significantly reduced on the low carb high fat diet.

So please be assured that eating fat does not caused more fat in your blood, instead it lowers the fat in your blood.

Just like in the other studies the low carb high fat diet also improved other markers of metabolic syndrome.

For example, it caused more weight loss and decreased the triglyceride to HDL ratio and as we learned in Facts Are Facts Part 4, reduced blood sugar levels.

The summery is this, despite a very high fat content, the low carb high fat diet can cause major reductions in blood triglyceride levels.
